Session 4 - Harnessing New Technologies

JigZone

I created this puzzle using JigZone at http://www.jigzone.com/

I think that this could be used as a engaging way to introduce a topic to children, providing them with the opportunity to ask questions about what the picture could be, initiating the start of useful discussion in a literacy lesson. For example, it could be used as a good tool to introduce a new book to the class as they ask question about the title page as it reveals itself to them as they complete the interactive puzzle.

Wordle

I created this word puzzle at http://www.wordle.net/create

Horton Hatches the Egg

I used part of Dr Seuss' poem 'Horton Hatches the Egg'. By using this programme it presents to children a display of grabbing words from within the poem but in a different and intriguing way which might draw them in and encourage them to think about the language they use in their own literacy. It could be used for any passage, words, or for any display. Children could also play with this themself to create a collage of words they think of themselves.

A similar programme can be found at http://www.tagxedo.com/app.html where the words can be made into a shape not just a collage of words, giving meaning to the way the words are formatted and encouraging children to ask questions about what they see in front of them.
